Cinderella In Gold

Cinderella In Gold 2024. One of a kind porcelain doll commission.

A collector asked me to create a custom Cinderella doll inspired by my limited 2009 Cinderella edition. I was reluctant to plagiarize myself, but wanted to fulfill my collector’s dream, so I decided to create a much more elaborate and intricate, one-of-a-kind costume for this special commission.

The mold for the corset ensemble was destroyed years ago, but I still had one bronze corset left in my personal collection, so I decided to part with it and give it to this special Cinderella for the final time. I gold-plated it with 24k yellow gold, and enhanced it with intricate ribbon work, tiny bows and unique lacing, so that it stands apart from all the other corsets I’ve made before!

The mold for the original collar was likewise destroyed, so I constructed a new one in sterling silver, gemstones and 18k gold plating. The design of this luxurious collar is inspired by a beautiful 18th century verge escapement pocket watch mechanism, which was used to protect the watch movements and cover the balance wheel. The reason I designed this collar based on a watch mechanism, is to symbolize the countdown to midnight. This collar was a challenge and a struggle, but I really enjoy a good challenge!

Stay tuned for a deeper dive into the components of this doll in the upcoming posts. I completed this doll before my dog passed away and plunged me into deep distress and dissociation from my doll work, but after all your wonderful support I feel eager to share the details of it with you again. Thank you!
