Cabinet of Curiosities
I wouldn’t consider myself a collector of things, and yet I do have a little cabinet of curious and beautiful objects at home, so maybe I’m just in denial about it. I wouldn’t call myself a bird lover either, and yet I see an avian theme repeating itself around my home in taxidermies, prints and sculptures, which surprises me and makes me wonder about the unconscious nature and unawareness of our attractions.
This here is one of my absolute favourite dolls and the Queen of my curiosity cabinet. She wears a magnificent silver Corvus Corona with feline vertebra tails. No living animals were harmed in making this piece - the bones were collected from creatures who no longer needed them, for which I’m grateful, as it allowed me to make this. Unfortunately the pink dental mold for the crow helmet is degrading and I’m about to lose it. Not sure if I should make a salvaging effort, or let it go into oblivion.
This helmet is still available for a special order for a little while longer, so email me if you want to have one made before the mold is gone. I’m also considering turning this doll, or possibly this whole scene into a canvas print, as I really enjoy the Cabinet of Curiosities aesthetic.
